Acts 2:14, 22-23; 1 Peter 1:17-21; Luke 24: 13:35. In the first reading, Peter proclaims to the Jews and all in Jerusalem that Jesus, commended to [them] by God, was also killed by them. But that God raised him up. Peter writes that all have been ransomed by the precious blood of Christ. In the Gospel, two disciples travelled from Jerusalem to Emmaus, discussing all that had happened. Jesus joined them, but they did not recognize him until they sat for a meal and he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them.

Domenica 3A Di Pasqua

From Fr. Gael: Peter, who during the Passion of Jesus, three times denied Jesus, in the Luke’s account of Acts powerfully and publicly proclaims Jesus. It took the power of the Holy Spirit to give Peter the courage to stand forth, but he did it. The First Reading show that eloquently.

I love the Gospel reading of the disciples of Emmaus, who from what scripture scholars can discern were a couple from the community of believers and followers of Jerusalem. The defeat of Good Friday, death of Jesus and enclosing of his body in the tomb had dashed their hope for the proclamation of the Kingdom of God. The start out to return home defeated, dejected and disillusioned. It is over. And then the encounter with the stranger on the road who feigns ignorance of the events occurred in Jerusalem with Jesus. They share their loss with him. He shares an illuminating understanding of scripture with them, accepts their invitation to him to break bread, and then, with eyes opened and hearts burning discover that their hope is not dashed. Rather, they now have even greater reason to believe and hop in Jesus. Jesus has revealed himself to them on the road and in the breaking of the bread. Jesus, still, today, reveals himself to us on the road of our lives and bless us always in the breaking of the bread. Alleluia!–Fr. Gael Sullivan, SDB

Speaking of Vocations: Could God be Calling Me? YES! God calls each of us to life, to wholeness, and to service. The task of the young adult is to discern what path God wants him or her to follow.

The Lord calls most people to marriage and family. For the Christian young adult this is a very important decision. Choosing to marry is not just a romantic response, but also a very specific process that includes prayer, investigation, involvement, and experience.

God calls some people to religious life as a Sister, Brother, or Priest. A religious vocation follows the same process. We call this the discernment process. Want to learn more about the Salesian Vocation? Email Fr. John Roche, SDB at jrochesdb@gmail.com
